Frequently asked questions
- Are my images uploaded to a server?
- No. Compression runs entirely inside your browser using built-in image APIs. Your file is read from your device, processed in memory, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent to us.
- Can I compress an image to exactly 100 KB?
- Not exactly, and that's intentional. We search for the highest image quality that stays at or below the size you asked for, so a 100 KB target typically produces a file somewhere just under 100 KB. Hitting an exact byte count would mean padding the file with useless data.
- Will compression reduce image quality?
- For JPG and WebP, yes — those formats trade some detail for a smaller file. We pick the highest quality setting that still fits your target, so the loss is usually hard to notice at normal viewing sizes. PNG compression is lossless, so quality is preserved but the size reduction is smaller.
- What image formats are supported?
- JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP. We keep your original format wherever possible. If a PNG can't reach a very small target, we'll say so and offer to save it as a JPG instead, rather than switching formats behind your back.
- Why did my image dimensions change?
- Only when they had to. We first lower the encoding quality while keeping the full resolution. If your target is much smaller than the original, quality alone isn't enough, so we gradually reduce the dimensions until the target is met. The final dimensions are always shown in the results.
